Mitsubishi Electric base-less compact PLC series with built-in I/O, Ethernet, USB and SD card. The series is being discontinued (global last order date: 30 Sep 2027). Contact TKK for spares and migration advice.
The MELSEC-L Series offers a compact, all-in-one PLC solution with rich built-in functions such as positioning, high-speed counting, and network communication. It enables flexible system design, improves control performance, and reduces wiring and installation costs.
Features
MELSEC-L is Mitsubishi Electric's base-less compact PLC series, with built-in I/O, Ethernet, USB and an SD card slot on the CPU. Mitsubishi Electric has announced that the series is being discontinued, so this page is a guide for plants that still run MELSEC-L systems: key dates, what the series offers and the migration options Mitsubishi points to (MELSEC MX Controller MX-F, MELSEC iQ-F and MELSEC iQ-R).
MELSEC-L Series lifecycle: key dates
Make-to-order since 30 September 2026.
Last order acceptance: 30 September 2027.
Production ends: 29 October 2027.
Repair support: until 31 October 2034, subject to parts availability. The AnyWireASLINK master module LJ51AW12AL is supported until 31 October 2028.
Reason given by Mitsubishi Electric: some parts are obsolete.
CE and UKCA marking is being removed from MELSEC-L modules for orders received from April 2027 (Mitsubishi Electric notice FA-A-0487-A). Please check export and import requirements for your project.
These are Mitsubishi Electric's global dates (technical bulletin FA-A-0466-B, revised July 2026). Availability and lead times in Thailand may differ and are not yet confirmed. Contact TKK for current stock, spare parts and migration advice.
Key features of the MELSEC-L compact PLC
Base-less structure: no base unit is needed, so modules connect side by side and the layout is not limited by base size. The main block holds the CPU, the power supply and up to 10 modules. A branch module (L6EXB), extension cable and extension module (L6EXE) add extension blocks, for a total of up to 30 modules on the L02CPU or 40 on the L06CPU and L26CPU.
Built-in I/O on every CPU: 16 inputs and 8 outputs, 2-axis positioning with pulse output up to 200K pulses/s, a 2-channel high-speed counter up to 200K pulses/s, PWM output up to 200 kHz, plus pulse catch and interrupt input.
Built-in Ethernet and USB (Ethernet on the L02CPU and above): 100/10 Mbps with MELSOFT connection, SLMP server, predefined protocol support (MODBUS/TCP and BACnet client), FTP server, SNTP time sync and a CC-Link IE Field Network Basic master. E-mail, web and random-access buffer functions need the LJ71E71-100 Ethernet module.
SD card and data logging: SD/SDHC card slot on the L02CPU and above, with CSV data logging and FTP transfer of the log files. An optional display unit (L6DSPU, 16 characters by 4 lines) can be added.
Programming: ladder, FBD/function block, SFC and ST with Mitsubishi Electric's GX Works2 engineering software.
Expansion modules and networks
Digital I/O modules: DC and AC input, relay and transistor (sink or source) output, and combined input/output modules.
Analog and temperature modules: analog input (L60AD4, L60ADVL8, L60ADIL8), analog output (L60DA4, L60DAVL8, L60DAIL8), multi-input L60MD4-G, RTD input L60RD8 and temperature control (L60TCTT4, L60TCRT4).
Positioning, simple motion and counting: LD75 positioning modules, LD77MS2/MS4/MS16 simple motion modules (SSCNET III/H) and LD62/LD62D high-speed counter modules. The LD62D counts up to 500K pulses/s.
Network modules: CC-Link IE Field (LJ71GF11-T2), CC-Link (LJ61BT11), Ethernet (LJ71E71-100), serial (LJ71C24) and AnyWireASLINK (LJ51AW12AL). The L26CPU-BT also has a built-in CC-Link master/local.
All of these modules are covered by Mitsubishi Electric's discontinuation notices, so confirm availability with TKK before planning an expansion.
Choosing a CPU: L02CPU, L06CPU, L26CPU or L26CPU-BT
Each CPU is built in a sink-output version and a source-output (-P) version.
L02CPU: 20K steps, LD instruction time 40 ns, up to 1024 I/O points and up to 30 modules.
L06CPU: 60K steps, LD instruction time 9.5 ns, up to 4096 I/O points and up to 40 modules.
L26CPU: 260K steps, LD instruction time 9.5 ns, up to 4096 I/O points and up to 40 modules.
L26CPU-BT: the L26CPU with a built-in CC-Link master/local, also 260K steps and 9.5 ns.

Migration options for MELSEC-L systems
Mitsubishi Electric recommends buying spare parts before the order deadline, or moving to MELSEC MX Controller MX-F, MELSEC iQ-F or MELSEC iQ-R. Mitsubishi lists these examples for the CPUs.
L02CPU: MXF100-8-N32, or R00CPU, R01CPU or R02CPU.
L06CPU: MXF100-8-N32, or R04CPU or R08CPU.
L26CPU and L26CPU-BT: MXF100-8-N32, or R16CPU or R32CPU.
Source-output (-P) CPUs: MXF100-8-P32 or the same iQ-R CPUs.
LD77MS2, LD77MS4 and LD77MS16 simple motion modules: RD77MS2, RD77MS4 and RD77MS16 (MELSEC iQ-R). The same schedule applies: make-to-order since September 2026, last orders in September 2027 and production ending in October 2027.
LD75 positioning modules: Mitsubishi names the MELSEC iQ-R RD75 modules (RD75P2/P4, RD75D2/D4) as alternatives. Wiring, specifications and buffer memory addresses differ by model, so check Mitsubishi's bulletin before migrating.
Some analog, counter and serial modules have MELSEC iQ-F options, and Mitsubishi lists MELSEC iQ-R modules for many others.
These replacements are not drop-in. Mitsubishi Electric marks wiring, program and specifications as not compatible for most modules. For example, the MX-F has no CC-Link IE Field or CC-Link master/local, and MELSEC iQ-R CPUs have no built-in I/O. Every migration needs a review of your wiring, program and network.
