In-Sight 9902L Series Features
The In-Sight 9902L 2K line scan smart camera is a high resolution self-contained vision system ideal for detailed inspections of large, cylindrical, or continuously moving objects. The 9902L acquires up to 16,000 lines of 2,000 pixels per line to produce a 32MP image that can used to detect even the smallest features and defects. Each pixel line is acquired at 67,000 lines per second to keep up with the fastest production lines. This standalone vision system only requires a small view of the target part, making it an ideal choice for installations with restrictive field of view or mounting space requirements.
The only self-contained line scan system
The In-Sight 9902L is the only embedded industrial line scan system that processes images directly on the camera. Onboard processing eliminates the inconvenience of having to install a separate controller. Plus, the IP67-rated housing protects the system from liquids and dust without the need for an external enclosure.
Inspects long, cylindrical, and continuously moving parts
Line scan cameras are an ideal choice for inspecting oversized or cylindrical objects on fast-moving production lines. There are many applications for line scan, the most common including:
- Cylindrical objects, such automotive filters and batteries, where 100% if the product’s surface can be inspected as it rotates along the production line
- Label inspection on curved surfaces, such as soup cans or bottles wrappers, that can be “unrolled” into a 2D flat surface for inspection
- Large objects, such as solar cells and car door panels that can be imaged and inspected as a whole
Fast, high resolution image acquisition
The In-Sight 9902L has a blazing fast 67 kHz line rate, acquiring each line of data in just 15 microseconds. Capturing 2,000 pixels with each line, the camera delivers 32MP images (16,000 lines) that enable vision tools to perform highly detailed inspections.

Software/Tools
Integrates easily into your system infrastructure
Like all In-Sight vision systems, the In-Sight 9902L uses In-Sight Explorer™ software with EasyBuilder® to set up and monitor machine vision inspections. The intuitive interface guides operators through a step-by-step setup process allowing both novice and experienced users to configure vision applications quickly and easily.
While many applications can be solved using the point-and-click EasyBuilder interface, users can access the In-Sight spreadsheet for ultimate control through direct access to the vision tools and communication options. Access to the spreadsheet not only provides programming flexibility to make essential adjustments, it also offers assurance that you will be able to solve any vision application.
In-Sight Vision Tools
In-Sight vision processing tools consist of functions that extract and process image features for further data analysis and decision making. The In-Sight vision toolset consists of:
Blob Tools
Blob tools are used to detect features have similar shades of grey scale. Blob is very useful for quantifying defect sizes or for locating features that do not have a repeatable shape. Blob can be used for monochrome and color images to quantify the amount of a particular color present.
Edge & InspectEdge Tools
Edge tools are used to detect dark and light transitions on a part. Edge tool results can be used to measure distances and can also be used to inspect by counting the number of edges found. Edges can also be used to detect and measure circles and arcs. The InspectEdge tool tracks an edge of a part to inspect for defects.
Flaw Detection Tools
The Flaw Detection tools, including Flex Flaw and Surface Flaw, are used to inspect contours and the surface area of parts. These advanced technologies are able to adapt to variations in lighting and in part appearance.
Geometry Tools
Geometry tools are used to measure critical dimensions of a part with point-and-click simplicity. Angles, arcs, diameters and point-to-line distances use real world calibration to provide accurate and repeatable results.
Histogram Tools
Histograms are used to inspect or monitor features of parts based on brightness.
ID Tools
In-Sight features PowerGrid and Hotbars, the Industry leading algorithms for Barcode reading, that help achieve the highest read rates for 1D and 2D Barcodes, including challenging Direct Part Mark (DPM) codes.
Image Filtering Tools
Advanced image filtering is used to highlight features or remove features of parts before doing additional processing with other vision tools. For color cameras, true 24-bit color filters are available.
Optical Character Recognition Tools
The OCV/OCR tool segments, extracts and trains fonts for optical character recognition (OCR) and optical character verification (OCV) of characters in an image. The font trainable tool accurately reads low-contrast or unevenly-spaced characters on confusing backgrounds.
Pattern Matching Tools
Locating a part accurately is the first step in most vision applications. Cognex’s industry leading pattern matching technologies, such as PatMax RedLine, provide unmatched accuracy and robustness, even with rotation, scale and lighting variations.
Accessories
C-mount lens
Manually-adjusted, high-performance lens offers the most flexibility in terms of lens size, aperture and focus. Provides even resolution throughout the entire field of view, making this the most widely-used lens type.
C-Mount Lens Cover
IP67-rated C-mount lens covers are available for protection in harsh environments and support wider diameter lenses. An extender of 30 mm is also available for lenses that require more length and is used in conjunction with this C-mount cover.
Cables
X-coded, power I/O and external light cables available.
I/O Modules
The I/O Breakout Module provides easy connection of In-Sight systems to power, acquisition triggers, outputs, and serial devices. I/O Expansion Modules increase the number of I/O points available to In-Sight systems, and provide full RS-232 handshaking.
